Kushagra Nayan Bajaj (35) is the great-grandson of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, the renowned freedom fighter, philanthropist, businessman, confidante, disciple and the adopted 5th son of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Kushagra is a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Political Philosophy and Finance from the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA. He earned his Master of Science in Marketing from the North Western University, Chicago, USA.
After completing his education in August 2001, Kushagra took charge as Chief Executive of Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd (BHL), a part of the Bajaj Group, India. He assumed responsibility for overall operations of BHL.
Presently, Kushagra is Vice Chairman of the Bajaj Group. His business group, with consolidated revenues of USD 1.8 billionand assets of USD 4.5 billion has interests in Power, Sugar, Ethanol, Real Estate, Personal Care Products and Infrastructure.The group currently employs over 20,000 people. Driven by a self-consciousness of its responsibility towards society, the group is actively engaged in the social and economic development of its communities through the KamalnayanJamnalal Bajaj Foundation.
The Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation will be spending over USD 150 million by the year 2020 to make people of two Districts in India (Wardha District in the state of Maharashtra and Sikkar District in the state of Rajasthan) self sufficient in water, hygiene and education.
Recognizing his achievements as a young entrepreneur, Kushagra was honored as a recipient of the `Young Achiever’ award by the jury of the 10th Rajiv Gandhi Awards in August 2007. Prior to this, India Today, in its Youth Special issue of January 2005, titled `Young Guns’, acknowledged him as a leader of India’s Gen Y, displaying the abilities of an agent of change and an ambition made of sterner resolve. He was also nominated for the prestigious Padma Shri Awards 2011 conferred annually by the Government of India.
