Item description
The Tukee Nepal Society has made significant strides in advancing education within the village, particularly for children from minority groups who previously did not attend school due to financial constraints or familial obligations on the farm. This organization not only covers educational expenses such as school fees, but also provides essential supplies including books, pens, and school uniforms. Each student is given a new set of clothes annually, comprising a winter sweater and socks, allowing them to reuse their previous sets at home. This strategy effectively persuades parents to prioritize their children's education by alleviating the burden of additional clothing expenses.
So far, the society has successfully sponsored the education of 30 students, two of whom have secured employment. Efforts are ongoing to help the remaining graduates find jobs. Currently, the society sponsors 260 students across various educational levels, from primary school to university.
The organization is committed to expanding its reach, aiming to support more students in continuing their education beyond primary school, which remains unaffordable for many. This endeavor seeks to address the financial barriers that prevent children in Jyamrung and nearby villages from pursuing secondary and higher education.
Recognizing the importance of adult education, the Tukee Nepal Society has introduced six-month literacy courses for adults who have never attended school. These evening classes have equipped many with basic reading and writing skills, enabling them to better integrate into society, manage finances, and correspond with family members in urban areas. This initiative also aims to inspire adults to value education for their children.
To accommodate the growing need for educational infrastructure, the society has utilized funds to construct additional school buildings, as the limited government support has led to inadequate classroom space. Four new buildings have been completed, but there is an urgent need for renovation in at least 10 more schools.
The organization also addresses the shortage of teachers by sponsoring educators in several schools, effectively doubling the teaching staff provided by the government. With the increase in student enrollment, there is a continuous need for more sponsored teachers to maintain quality education.
Furthermore, the society has established a library filled with a diverse range of books, including international donations and purchases from Kathmandu, to enrich the learning resources for students, teachers, and the community. This initiative highlights the need for further sponsorship to expand library services to other villages and enhance the collection of educational materials.
In summary, the Tukee Nepal Society is dedicated to breaking down financial and logistical barriers to education in rural Nepal, supporting a comprehensive approach that includes sponsoring students, building infrastructure, providing adult education, and enriching educational resources through libraries.
